THE EPISTOLARY NOVELS Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The epistolary novels are characterized because are “a story written in the form of letter,” (1) and the author usually hides his identity. The first time that this technique was used in English language “was a translation from the French in 1683”; however, this technique was not begin to be used after 1800 when artists like Jane Austen, or M. Edgewort commenced to write stories of correspondence(1). Although epistolary novels use the same technique, the intention of these novels change; thus, we can find stories about the “comedy of manners of middle-class life in the England,” (2) like Pride and Prejudice written by Jane Austen, or tragedies like The Diary of Anne Frank. It is very interesting to figure out what was the intention of each one when they decided to write these epistolary novels. Both Jane Austen and Anne Frank were very young writers, and both came from low middle class families. Jane Austen was born on December 16th, 1775 to the Rev.
