THE RHETORIC OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTON Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The British Parliament passed many new taxes on the American Colonists in the 1760’s. They included the Sugar Act of 1764, the Stamp Act of 1765, and the Townshend Acts. The reason they imposed these taxes was to pay for the money that was used for the French and Indian war; which by the way they lost that war. Two of the main causes of The American Revolution were the Stamp Act and the Townshend Acts. In 1765 British Parliament passed the Stamp Act which put taxes on any kind of paper document. Many American colonists disagreed with this act because this was a direct act which means it effects everyone. In response they used political rhetoric to challenge the tax. Samuel Adams created the Sons of Liberty in Boston, Massachusetts. They were a secret organization that stop the tax money from being collected by attacking the tax collectors. The Stamp Act Congress was organized to peacefully oppose the Stamp Act. Nine of the thirteen American Colonies sent representatives to the meeting.
