Urban Cowboy the musical Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

On February 26, 2007 in Beaumont, Texas, I attended Windwood Theatricals’ adaptation of Urban Cowboy - The Musical. This production entails the story of a young small town cowboy, Bud, who travels to the bright lights of Houston, Texas simply looking for money and love. He moves in with his aunt and uncle who immediately introduce him to the night life of the infamous honky-tonk, Gilley’s. Bud quickly consumes himself in a whirlwind of a romance with a young cowgirl, Sissy, and ends up marrying her soon after their meeting. The show tells the story of the troubles the newlyweds come across while fighting to survive the first year of marriage. The main scenes take place in the nightclub centered around a notorious bull riding machine that is the major cause of their break-up. In the end, the couple reunite and realize their love for each other outweighs any problems they have faced. For the most part, the performers portrayed believable qualities and successfully depicted their characters.
