First, is some of Madam C.J. Walkers background. She was born as Sarah Breedlove, but later became known as Madam C. J. Walker. She was born into a former-slave family her parents were Owen and Minerva Breedlove. She had one older sister and four brothers. Her parents had been slaves on a farm which was a battle-staging area during the Civil War for General Ulysses S. Grant and his Union troops. She became an orphan at age 7 when her parents died during an epidemic of yellow fever. To escape the epidemic ten year old Sarah and her sister moved across the river to Vicksburg in 1878 and became maids. At the age of fourteen, she married Moses McWilliams to escap......
