Sunset Blvd. Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Sunset Blvd. is a film noir classic; it is a movie that combines together the basic elements of the noir genre and the realistic image of Hollywood. Noir’s treatment of this film is obvious, since all of the main characters meet their doom in one way or another. It almost mirrors the real and terrifying part of fame through Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson) and Max von Mayerling (Erich von Stroheim). Gloria Swanson was nominated for an Oscar for her performance of an idealist actress, ironically though they hired her after their third trial in acquiring an actress for the role. Swanson was fit for the part because she resembles the character in many ways; she was a star of the silence films and had the face that can resemble the film’s main arguments (Trowbridge). To add more reality in the film, Erich von Stroheim was hired as Max because he actually was a director who left he position to become an actor (IMDB). The vision and direction brought by Billy Wilder, has set a dark and real tone for the film and a message towards Hollywood. Wilder’s vision includes the harsh truth behind ......
