The Watergate Scandal
The Watergate scandal was when Richard Nixon sent certain members of his administration in to the Democratic National Headquarters to break in. The reason it is called the Watergate Scandal is because it took place at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C. The were well disguised, some were dressed as plumbers, that were there to fix leaks, and others were past members of the CIA. They were dressed well, all of this just to plant some listening devices there.
How they actually, technically got caught was by Frank Willis keen eye. He was a security guard that worked in the office building of the Watergate complex space. He noticed a piece of tape that was holding preventing the door from being locked, (holding it unlocked.) He went ahead and removed the tape thinking that the cleaning crew might have left it there. Later that night, while on his shift, around 2 A.M. he found that the tape was there again, at that point he contacted the Washington police.
