Mommy, whats the matter? Where did daddy go? My shaky voice asked as I stared into my mothers red-rimmed, tear strained eyes. He went to Grammys house for a little while, dont worry everythings okay. As much as I wanted to believe her I couldnt. I was young but I was still aware of what seemed to be going on in my house. As I lay in my bed, cozy and warm, I could hear my parents arguing, an occasional scream coming from my mother or a door slamming, shaking the entire house while they thought I was fast asleep. It was quite a period of time until I was able to fall asleep, until the house finally silenced and everything was perfect again. My parents tried to pretend everything was fine, when I really wanted to scream, What is wrong with you? Stop acting like everything is okay. Its NOT! But I couldnt because Ive never been the kind of person to express my feelings, for fear of how others will take it.
