Does the U.S. Patriot Act violate the 4th Amendment? By: Georgina Hodges Since September 11, 2001, politicians in this country have been trying to walk the line between National Security and violation of privacy rights. Several measures have been passed, one of these is the U. S. Patriot Act, (ATLA Government News) to combat terrorism, and have come under fire of the American Civil Liberties Union, (ACLU ). The ACLU believes that the U.S. Patriot Act violates civil liberties. The U.S. Patriot Act amends the federal criminal code to allow the interception of wire, oral and electronic communications for the production of evidence of either specified chemical weapons or terrorism offenses and computer fraud and abuse. This section has been the source of a fiery debate between the ACLU and conservative politicians, with the ACLU arguing that this is directly in violation of the 4th Amendment. The 4th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution protects citizens from unreasonable search and seizures (Klotter, Kanovitz, and Kanovitz 153). What is considered a violation of privacy? Where is......
