Bernard Ebbers and WorldCom Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Bernard Ebbers, a two time college drop out from Canada still managed to run one of the most successful companies after finally graduating from Mississippi College. In 1983 Bernard Ebbers started WorldCom, a long distance resale company. Shortly thereafter WorldCom under Ebbers leadership started devouring other similar smaller companies such as MFS Communications and UUNet. What emerged from these series of acquisitions was WorldCom, one of the worlds largest internet service providers and Telecommunication Companies. This was until April of 2002 when a huge accounting scandal arose and Ebbers decided to resign from the company in April 2002 amid the accounting scandal.
As a result of this scandal a class action civil lawsuit was brought against Ebbers and other members of upper management. Then on November 2, 2002 charges were brought against Ebbers accusing him of securities and fraud violations. On September 12, 2002 Judge Cote of the U. S.
