Many Americans are faced with the problem of how they are going to get their medication(s). The high cost of prescription drugs makes it very difficult for seniors and low-income families that may or may not have any type of insurance. Not only is this affecting them but also even the every day working American has to deal with the high costs of prescriptions. Why do these drugs cost so much and why cant the government do something to lower the costs? Legislation has developed the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit but is this truly going to solve this problem or is just a way to work out one problem and hope it does not create another? This essay will show that the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit is not all that they have lead us to believe and does not solve the whole issue of the high costs.
