Most Important Theme of The Great Gatsby Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald there are many themes such as time and honesty (or the lack there of), but out of all of these themes the most important is dreams. The theme of dreams covers so much of the story’s main ideas (such as the deterioration of the American dream, time and dishonesty) and helps to tie them all together. Dreams are the most important theme because it helps the reader to understand the dynamics of the time and the way the characters interact with each other. The Great Gatsby is a novel that has a lot to do with time. Though the main story is set in the 1920’s it seems as though some of the characters long for and are living in separate times. Gatsby for example seems to be living in the past back when he had his affair with Daisy.
