Supply chain management (SCM) is the process of optimizing the shipment of goods and services from supplier to customer. The goals of SCM are to optimize production, decrease manufacturing time, reduce inventory, streamline order fulfillment and reduce cost. Today's supply chains span the globe, with suppliers and partners in multiple countries and multiple time zones.
The core of Supply Chain Management is made up of eight processes:
The customer relationship management process describes how a company builds and maintains its relationship with its customer base. Teams are formed to meet the needs of targeted customers and customer groups. These teams work with key accounts to improve processes, eliminate demand and variability. For example, a company may build a database containing their customer relationship information. This database may be accessible by all parties concerned so customer could be matched with product plans and offerings, given service reminders etc.
