Mother’s Values Amy Tan is an Asian American writer who grew up in San Francisco, California. Tan comes from a family that has deep cultural roots since her mother was first generation in the states. With such deep roots in her family, Tan would run into conflicts with her mother that was nothing more than the difference of where they were brought up. Tan writes from an Asian diasporas point of view and helps enlighten Americans to help them understand how tough it is for young Asian Americans growing up. Tan’s story, A Pair of Tickets and Joy Luck Club relate to each other by expressing the lack of communication between mothers and daughters, as well as, cultural differences within the generations, and both have the outcome of a final understanding from each other.
