To what extent is Gandhi the father of the nation?
Gandhi was truly the father of the nation. When he returned to India after his success in South Africa, he saw that his people were being oppressed by British rule. At first he fought for his nations home rule, but later he pushed for independence. He became dominant starting from 1920 when his demonstrations against the Rowlatt acts resulted in the Amistar Massacre, and he is still a dominant figure now following his success in leading India to independence in 1914. Being the father of the nation means that Gandhi behaved like a father towards his nation, just like a father towards his family, only on a grander scale. Gandhi displayed all the fatherly characteristics of being a great role model to his people, teaching his people, protecting the nation, not neglecting any groups, and doing what he thought was best for the nation.
