Thoreau: A Contemporary View Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Henry David Thoreau developed an extremely important concept that has shaped American history ever since. Thoreau introduced the idea of “Civil Disobedience.” Unlike a revolution, hate crimes, war or rebellions rebel where change was only possible with bloodshed and innocent deaths, civil disobedience incorporates the idea in which an individual or community can express dissatisfaction, discontent and frustration with what is going on around them and taking a stand but doing so in a civil way, either through peaceful protests, strikes or refusing to pay for something. Thoreau and his idea of non-violent protest have influenced many people and changes many laws most importantly the impact it had on Martin Luther King Jr. in his fight for black equality. Civil disobedience is something that should take place. Take for example how the government is running things, or certain laws that in the simplest terms “make no sense”, one should be able to state their discontent (of course in a valid logical argument in which the person has strong substance backing it) without using violence......
