Can everybodys opinion make a difference in the community and the people that live in it? People are always encouraged to speak out in their communities. I have always heard this from people while growing up in a rural area. Moreover, I am not talking about some backwater town in a Kansas. My hometown is located in Mississippi by the name of Meridian. I never really called it home; however, it would be my stomping grounds for thirty years.
The city of Meridian is made up of about 150,000 people. Diverse does not begin to show the true nature of the town. Meridian was once owned and populated by the Choctaw Indians in 1831. However, the people have transformed it into a small thriving community. Because being in the south, the population is mostly Black, White, and some Indians on their reservations. Most families that reside here date back to the time General Shermans Army came marching in 1864 (Britannica, 2007).
