To Kill A Mockingbird Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

“To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee is the moving story of an innocent black man charged with the rape of a white girl. Set in the small town of Maycomb, Alabama in the 1930s, this novel explores the issues of racism and discrimination that were an everyday part of life in the Deep South at this time. Through the eyes of young Scout Finch and her older brother Jem, we see the irrationality to class and colour of skin that many adults possessed. The novel left me feeling shocked and upset at how prejudiced people can be, and I felt terribly inferior to the true heroes of the story – Atticus Finch, Scout and Jem’s father, who tried to instil in his children his strong sense of morality and justice; Miss Maudie, one of the few white people in Maycomb to believe in racial equality; Boo Radley, who the children had been frightened of in the exposition of the story, but proved that he was a decent man throughout the course of the novel, who was destroyed by his cruel father; and perhaps most importantly, Tom Robinson, whose death was a result of unjust racial prejudice as he was foun......
