Throughout history man through his social institutions has been engaged in a never-ending state of conflict. While we can point towards progress in areas such as human rights and rules of war, there is nonetheless a prevalent state of war from which we cannot escape. Although some might attest to the current state of “Pax Americana” this stability does not fulfill the requirements that of what Kant calls “perpetual peace”. Often popularly regarded as an idealistic contemporary idea, “perpetual peace” (or world peace) is a relatively simple idea that would be easily attainable given certain conditions. It is these condition that Kant and later Rawls devise in their works “Perpetual Peace” and “The Law of Peoples”. In the creating a code for “perpetual peace”, Kant devises an elaborate set of rules from which nations are to adhere to. Firstly, Kant introduces six preliminary articles by which individual nations must incorporate to maintain perpetual peace. The six articles include the abandonment of previsions for future war, annexation of land or nation, abolishment......
