Macbeth’s Collapse In the play “Macbeth” by Shakespeare, Macbeth learns early in the play from three witches about his optimistic future of being thane of Cawdor and eventually king of Scotland. Then to concur with the witches, a short while later King Duncan’s men reveal to Macbeth that he has been named Thane of Cawdor, Then, guided by Lady Macbeth, Macbeth goes on a violent rampage trying to obtain the throne from King Duncan. Throughout the play Macbeth orders and commits violent murders to help him obtain his apparition of becoming the next king. Macbeth deals with corrupt people and ideas throughout the play which lead to the collapse of his integrity and heroic character. Although many readers of “Macbeth” think the main character Macbeth is a violent and evil character; in reality Macbeth is a tragic hero who falls victimized to his once civil and humane character who becomes corrupt and evil through the deceitfulness of his wife Lady Macbeth, the three witches who predicted his future authority of thane and king, and his own ambitious visions of becoming king.
