Ethan Frome Conflicts Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
The definition of a novel is a piece of literature which includes characters, a plot, and a conclusion. Most importantly however, there needs to be a conflict, otherwise there would be no rising or falling action. In the novel Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton, not only is conflict an element but it is also a motif running throughout the entire book. The main conflict in the book is that of which Ethan has with himself and whether or not he is justified and shows morals towards his love for his wifes cousin Mattie, and due to the circumstances he is.
Ethan had always wanted to escape from Starkfield, Illinois for to go live in bigger cities, and to pursue a career in science. However, his schooling was cut short because his parents had gotten ill and he had to return to take care of them. There he met Zenobia when she came to the Frome house to tend for his sick mother.
