Death Penalty Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

More than 4,500 people have been executed in the United States since 1930 (http://www.crimemagazine.com/cp101.htm, 1). Americans have supported the death penalty for generations because they believed it might stop people of doing bad things. In the general, the death penalty is the punishment for convicted criminals for murder, espionage, and treason. However, according to the public opinion poll conducted in 2007, the public is loosing confidence in the death penalty (http:// www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/Coc.pdf, 2). People are deeply concerned about the fairness of the process, and about the inability of the capital punishment to prevent crime. In fact, over 120 people have been freed from the death row since 1973 after their convictions were overturned (http://www.deathpenalty.org/index.php?pid=facts, 1). However, in theory the majority of the people still support the idea of the death penalty. But, there are arguments which decrease the support of the death penalty.
