The term deviance is one that provides numerous dilemmas surrounding its meaning. The question what is social deviance in its self can provide two meanings surrounding society and certain behaviours. When considering what is social deviance contains symbolic interactionalist and functionalist theories are needed to ultimately describe the various aspects of deviant behaviour. However which one of these theories adequately provides an explanation for what deviant behaviour enlists. Each of these theories lie on either end of a spectrum and provide certain implications of deviant behaviour that the other does not. Examples of deviancy can be seen throughout different social settings contrasting both positive and negative effects.
