A Young girls Journey In To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout Finch, a young girl growing up in a small southern town, tells the story of her childhood and how she witnesses the trial of a black man accused of raping a poor white woman. Even though she tells the story of her childhood, it also shows how she matures throughout the three year long trial. Harper Lee, the author of To Kill a Mockingbird, used a good technique by choosing Scout to be the narrator of the book. Choosing Scout as the first person narrator had many strengths but also some limitations. Scout is a bright, sensitive, and intelligent little girl. The author uses Scout’s innocence throughout the book to display the prejudice of people in the town. Such as Aunt Alexandria she attempts to tell Scout why she can’t bring Walter Cunningham home: “I didn’t say not to be nice to him. You should be friendly and polite to him; you should be gracious to everybody, dear, but you don’t have to invite him home” (227). Another example of prejudice in the novel is racism. When Scout and Jem walk past Mrs. Dubose, she says ......
