Far Right in France and The Netherlands Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Western Europe has seen a marked rise in the electoral success of many parties that are categorized as being on the far right of the contemporary political spectrum. From the Freedom Party in Austria to the rise and fall of Pim Fortuyn in The Netherlands, there is no doubt that the far right has been on the march since the early 1980s. But what is the reason for this shift in the electoral patterns of a once decidedly left of center continent. By analyzing the political situations in France and The Netherlands I hope to find a link that will help explain the new found success of the far right. I believe that the immigration policies promulgated by the French and Dutch governments will be the main factor that has lead to the advancement of far right political parties, as well as their inherent ideologies. The first part of this paper will deal with defining and identify what parties actually belong to the far right in the two countries.
