TEACHERS DAY
September 5th is the Birth anniversary of one of the modern Indias most
notable Teachers and philosophers, the Late Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was
Independent Indias second President. We have been observing it ever since his
passing away as our countrys Teachers Day. We take pride in the thoughts and
teachings of this Guru of the Gurus, someone who possessed the qualities of a Rishi
and a Raja and thus was considered a Rajarshi.
Almost immediately after Independence Nehru assigned him as Indias first Ambassador to the Soviet Union. This Indian Ambassador boldly told Stalin, face-to-face, to be humane and non-violent. Getting up to take leave of this taciturn and tough Dictator, Ambassador Radhakrishnan permitted himself to pat Stalin on his cheeks. Stalin was stunned, but
recognized the Guru in Radhakrishnan and neither protested nor squirmed.
