In our society romantic relationships have evolved over the past forty years. Certain romantic relationships were not acceptable. Our society today has learned to accept what many years ago would have been seen as shameful. Relationship many years ago were not acceptable because they did not reach a certain criteria to certain people. Many issue where that both people from the relationship would not be from the same race, religion, or even had the same values in life. Many years ago, it was not acceptable to marry someone “different”. Many things played an important part in relationships then. Now we find that relationships are more open to different race, religion, values, views on sex and even same sex marriages. In the novel, “The Tortilla Curtain,” it has some relationships that are totally different. It talks about a relationship that goes through hard times with a couple that has to live in a canyon and don’t have a roof over their heads.
