1. Biography
William Faulkner was one of the great American writers of the 20th century. He was born in 1897 into an old Southern family named Falkner, that abounded in lessons, not always flattering, of pride, arrogance, humility, honor, courage, rapacity, ingenuity, shrewdness and love. [

He dropped out of high school because he was more interested in literature and in writing than in going to school. After various jobs like painter or carpenter Faulkner trained in Canada as a cadet pilot in the Royal Air Force in 1918. After that he enrolled as a special student at the University of Mississippi though he had no high school graduation.
