In this paper I will be talking about physical punishment on children. I chose this topic, because I have a three year old daughter and I wanted to find out information that can guide my parenting. I can take all the information I receive and apply it to my everyday life. I will be hitting the areas of long and short-term effects of physical punishment. Also I will be going through alternatives to physical punishment. Towards the end of this paper I will give my personal opinion on physical punishment. Before I can get into the long and short-term effects of physical punishment, I would like to define what physical punishment really is. In finding research I have figure out that physical punishment is causing pain or damage to a lesser beings body in result of obedience(Block,2005). Physical punishment is something that has been used on animals, criminals, and our children. That makes me wonder why anyone would want to put our children in the same category as animals or criminals, but many people do it without noticing.
