Review of The Goal, A Process of Ongoing Improvement By Eliyahu Goldratt and Jeff Cox William H. McKnight Jr. MCT 603C Dr. Gordon Minty This book deals with manufacturing issues in very realistic methods, and provides one of the best reading source books I have seen. Goldratt and Cox provide a bird's eye view of a real world situation whereby a plant must put up or shut up (or maybe shutdown would be a better term to use). The authors used plain language and simple methods to show how massive improvements can happen in a plant when common sense is used, although I often wonder just what common sense is since it means so many different things to so many different people. Maybe the authors are just trying to get the reader to think outside of the modern manufacturing paradigm by putting forth his concept that he calls "theory of constraints" The ability of the authors to provide an excellent piece of literature that guides the reader through common shop floor problems and shows how to solve those problems by working outside of the box. The book provides a different method ......
