Oedipus the King by Sophocles and A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen are revolutionary works in literature. In Oedipus the King, Oedipus is an over-confident character who is greatly affected by the hubris that he suffers from. Oedipus, throughout the story, is on a quest for truth on who murdered Lauis, former king of Thebes. Oedipus goes through this quest and discovers many unexpected truths along the way. Oedipus, with the help of Tiresias, the blind prophet, learns that he did not really “outsmart” Apollo as he previously. A Doll’s House is the story of a Victorian marriage and the main character’s struggle for relief of financial troubles cause by her love for her husband. Nora, the main character, had taken out a loan to help pay for a trip to Italy to improve her husband’s health. She sacrifices all she has for her husband’s well-being, but he does not know this. A Doll’s House is the story of Nora’s attempts to keep this fact a secret. In these attempts, she becomes a dynamic character and becomes an independent woman at the end of the story, an idea looked down up......
