Theme of the Crucible Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
The Crucible was a play based on the Salem Witch Trials in the late 1600s. It describes the activities during that time period of turmoil and persecution. When Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible, he portrayed the Salem Witch Trials with diligence and did a very good job developing the theme of searching for truth and total cleansing throughout the entire course and actions of the characters.
The setting of any story is vital. The Crucible opens with many young girls awakening in the night and going into the woods. There they proceeded perform mild forms of witchcraft. After some time, Mr. Parris, the town reverend, catches them and they scatter. Immediately one can see that there is going to be some controversy in the play. In the opening scenes, the problems are introduced up front and boldly. The beginning scenes reveal some of the main characters and how they react under stress.
As Act I progresses, more and more people become concerned with witchcraft. Almost everyone in the town soon becomes chaotic and bewildered about witchcraft. The girls start to accuse other p......
