Non-Hodgkins lymphoma is just one of the many types of cancer. Lymphoma is a term for cancer that begins in the lymphatic system. When lymphomas are grouped or clustered together they are called non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Lymphomas account for about 5% of all cancer cases in this country. To understand non-Hodgkins lymphoma its good to know a little bit about how the lymphatic system works. The lymphatic system is part of the immune system that aides the body in fighting infections and diseases. The lymphatic system is a network of specialized organs that include the thymus, tonsils, spleen, lymph nodes, and lymphatic vessels. Lymph nodes can be found in clusters under the skin in areas of the neck, underarms, groin, chest and abdomen. Lymph nodes are connected by lymphatic vessels that carry lymph a colorless fluid thats obtained from the bodys tissue, and eventually the lymphatic fluid is channeled back into the bloodstream.
