The Stone Breakers The “stone breakers” (as seen above) is an oil canvas created by Gustave Courbet in 1849. This was also the time period of the Industrial Revolution which greatly affects the purpose of this piece. In this piece I would have to say that the elements of art were very well distributed. A very distinctive element would have to be the use of lines. There are several bold lines distinctively molded into precise forms. Which again are greatly used. I must say his use of space is very well displayed keeping the main thought or value but still giving a very symbolic setting. There’s not so much of a texture or pattern in this piece nor does it need it. The colors in this portrait make the piece look very well accomplished and does not need any other elements to define the mood he has given. With the use of the antique, dessert browns and yellows and oranges; this piece is very moving and deeper than I ever thought just through the elements demonstrated! Not only were the elements used very magnificently the principles of art he used to create this masterpiece ......
