Aristotle Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Aristotle was a Greek Philosopher who was born in 384 BC in a city called Stagira, which was north of Greece. His father, Nichomachus was the court physician to the Macedonian royal family who died when Aristotle was only ten years old. He was raised by a guardian named Proxenus. There were many physicians in Aristotle’s family. Because of this, he received training and education in that field and was inclined toward studying natural phenomena. This education had long-lasting influences, and was probably what caused his less than idealistic stand on philosophy. At the age of seventeen, Proxenus sent Aristotle to Plato’s Academy in Athens. Aristotle stayed at the school for twenty years. Aristotle was Plato’s most promising student, but he did not succeed Plato as head of the Academy because of his opposing views on a number of fundamental philosophical issues. After Plato’s death in 347 BC, Aristotle left the school and went to live in the palace of his friend Hermeas.
