Great Gatsby Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

THE SINCERELY “GREAT” GATSBY F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, is a novel of a man’s unwavering and futile love for an undeserving woman. The story is set in the flamboyant “Jazz Age”, told through the character of Nick Carraway. Nick saw the world around him as a “desolate, moral wasteland” with few exceptions. The aspects of the immoral society are incarnated into the many characters and events. Nick was able to understand the rotten morals that the people around him had. Nick, however, saw Gatsby to be unlike those immoral people, he saw Gatsby’s complete commitment to his dream. Nick genuinely felt Gatsby was unlike the rest of the careless society. Nick’s final words to Gatsby show his understanding of the people around him "They’re a rotten crowd… You’re worth the whole damn bunch put together.” (Fitzgerald 146). Nick’s assessment of Gatsby is fitting when an analysis between Gatsby and significant characters is done.
