Cash Flow Statement Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The statement of cash flows (SCF) has been regarded as an extremely important vehicle by investors and creditors. The primary goal of the SCF is to provide current and reliable data regarding a corporation’s cash receipts and cash payments for a definitive amount of time. The decision to file the SCF using the direct method versus the indirect method is entirely at the discretion of a corporation. The primary users of the SCF are investors and creditors. However, a word of caution must be issued if an investor or creditor is relying solely on the SCF for making decisions to invest or loan money. A SCF is comprised of three sections: operating activities, financing activities, and investing activities. The main difference in the SCF when comparing the direct versus indirect-method of presentation is within the operating activities section. Specifically, the direct method of presentation lists each major category of cash receipts and cash expenditures and shows exactly how much cash was taken in or paid out for a given period of time.
