Lacrosse History Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Lacrosse Is it a net for catching butterflies or fish or is it a snowshoe? No, it’s a lacrosse stick which was used with a deer skin ball stuffed with hair to play the oldest game known in North America. Early in the 15th century natives used the stick with a basket at the end and the deer skin ball to play a game not only for fun but also to settle disputes, amuse their creator and prepare for war. The reasons in history why people play and watch lacrosse have changed and some of those reasons are very interesting. Among Native Americans, there were many versions of what we now call lacrosse. Players in some tribes used two sticks, one in each hand. Women and men sometimes competed together on the same teams, but women may have had their own version of the sport in some areas. With the use of the stick and net a player would catch, pass or pick up the ball from the ground to move it to a goal. The main rule was that hands could not touch the ball.
