Reason and emotion are equally necessary in justifying moral decisions. Sometimes, they can work together, or they cannot. Other times, it can depend on if the person making the decision is an emotionalist, or a reasonable person. Reason and emotion mostly contradict each other. However, in rare occasions, they can both be used to solve moral decisions in today’s society. Before we get into that, we must also define what a moral really means. Is it a right or wrong type of a situation? Could it be what society deems as right, or even what the person believes in? Miriam Webster’s dictionary defines morals as “of or relating to principles of right and wrong in behavior.” Now we see another problem again. What would be our definition of right and wrong? Some say it could be what society says is right and what is wrong. Our western philosophy of morals is based on the basic right and wrong, Christian morals.
