Persistence, commitment and love emanate from many of the women characters in Wintons Minimum of Two. Their strength however is perhaps the most prominent feature in their relationships, but it can also be seen in men. Winton illustrates that not only women but men too can be the strong ones in relationships, and that strength and support from either is often vital to achieve a successful partnership.
Quite often, Wintons women characters are the strong, dominant figures in relationships, acting as the driving force. When we are first introduced to Rachel in Forest Winter, we find her to be placid, listless, sickly, as though shed had the life torn from her. At first she seems frail, as though shes a helpless burden on her and Jerras relationship who adds to the struggle. She appears void of strength. However her enormous strength becomes evident when it is unleashed in the preceding story, the Strong One. By then she has over come this dark period in her life, ......
