Aphrodite governs desire and sexuality. She is also known as Cytherea, Cypris, and Venus (Roman). She is often pictured with a sceptre or a mirror Aphrodite was the goddess of love and beauty. She was daughter of Hera and Zeus, but some say she had no parents. Her attributes are rams, dolphins, doves, roses, sparrows and swans. She was named fairest goddess by Paris. She was married to Hephaestos, by order of Zeus, but she truly loved Ares, god of war. Her full siblings were Ares, Hephaestos, and Hebe. She had many half siblings too, as Zeus was married to more than one person. She was very irresistible because of a golden girdle that she wore. Here is a myth about her. Aphrodite rose out of the sea on a cushion of foam. The west wind was the first to see her and he blew her to the island of Cythera where the three graces dressed her in sparkling jewels and sparkling gowns. Then they put her in a golden chariot drawn by doves and brought her to Mount Olympus. The deities made her a goddess and gave her a golden throne.
