This season Broadway brought in 1.32 million international attendees, which is more than double the 526,000 international attendees after the terrorist attacks in 2001. Local theatergoers around New York also had a higher attendance of 2.29 million tickets sold, up from the 2.05 million tickets last season. People who live in the suburbs purchased 2.94 million tickets this year as opposed to 2.48 million last year. The average age of a theatergoer was 42 years of age, 62% of the audience being female. A typical Broadway attendee is well educated having completed college and some graduate school.
