Mark Andrew U. Fernandez BSEd 3-2 Critical Essay on “A Christmas Carol” The novel “A Christmas Carol” obviously conveys the real message of Christmas. At Stave One, several people are being mentioned with different purposes during Christmas. Crachit for example is asking Scrooge, the main character, for a break on Christmas for his family; Fred, the latter’s nephew invites him to dine with him as the purpose of Christmas as for merriment; Scrooge’s another nephew, whose name is not mentioned, wishes him a Merry Christmas as the purpose of Christmas as to give gifts to the children; the two men asking for donation as the purpose of Christmas as giving in charitable ways. However, all of these were irrationally rejected by Scrooge who sees Christmas as just an ordinary day. This certain situation gives the impression that Scrooge is very greedy of money that he can’t even pay a day himself to be merry- he’s pathetic in this way. Scrooge is being portrayed as hard-hearted. Scrooge, on a deeper sense, symbolizes all of those rich men who live only for money and for themsel......
