King Tuts Tomb Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

King Tut, who’s full name was Nebkheperure Tutankhamen, was the twelfth pharaoh of the eighteenth dynasty of Egypt. He ruled from 1333 – 1324 B.C. during a period called the New Kingdom. Howard Carter started working in Egypt at the age of seventeen. He was a great artist and used this skill to copy inscriptions and picture scenes on walls. He later went to work for Lord Carnarvon, who hired Carter because of his knowledge of archaeology. Carnarvon took up an interest in archaeology when he spent many winters in Egypt. He did this because of his serious car accident that left him ill. He wanted to spend the winters in a warmer climate. Together, Carter and Carnarvon began their work in the Valley of the Kings. During their excavation, Carter found several things bearing King Tut’s name, such as a cup and some gold foil. Lord Carnarvon brought the search to a halt when the two hadn’t found much in five years. Carter talked him into one more season of excavation.
