French Revolution Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Causes of the French Revolution Primary causes for the French Revolution were inequalities, both socially and politically. The clergy and nobles were allowed privileges such as not paying taxes like the commoners were forced to. The commoners had no political freedoms or power, but they paid the majority of the taxes. The clergy and nobles had about two thirds of the votes and could out vote the peasants. With that, the commoners became displeased with the privileged class. The political, social, and economic conditions in France contributed to the displeasure felt by many French people, especially those of the third estate. Anyone who criticized the government could be arrested and put in prison without trial. King Louis XVI was the ruler during the start of the French Revolution. He and his royal family, including Marie Antoinette, lived an excessive life at the Château de Versailles. They both spent exorbitant amounts of money on entertaining in their many palaces and did not seem to take much in the state of France.. The Revolution was also fueled by the increasing jealousy ......
