Raw Recruits, a book by the authors Alexander Wolff and Armen Keteyian, is a depiction of the scandals that go on throughout recruiting in college basketball. Throughout the book, Wolff and Keteyian move from the topics of summer leagues to under-the-table money given to prospective players to unveil the truth about collegiate basketball recruiting during the late 1980s. The unlawful recruitment actions, by NCAA standards and rules, which occurred in many universities across the country, are harmful to the schools, families, and the student-athlete.
Raw Recruits was set during the late 1980s. This was a time when scandals within collegiate recruiting were not so well known of. The scandals happened quite often, but many people either did not know they were wrong, or did not care. While reading this book, I discovered many shocking events that have occurred in the past that I did not know of.
