One may be mystified or even completely dumb founded after reading chapter three from Aldous Huxleys Brave New World (1932). The way Huxley mixes the dialogues between three different pairs or groups of people can be very confusing and mind boggling if only read through once. However, once read over a few times and understood completely, chapter three becomes very vital to the book. Chapter three gives valuable insight to the reader so that he or she can understand the importance of conditioning, understand the main plot, get to know the main characters, and become interested in the book.
Huxley begins Brave New World by following a group of students through a tour of the London Hatchery and Conditioning Centre. Throughout the first two chapters of the book, Huxley moves slowly into plot, devoting the two chapters to an explanation of the principle mechanisms of social control: eugenics/dysgenics, neo-Pavlovian conditioning, and hypnopaedia (Nance 73).
