Mr. Rumsfeld CSL 1501 T.A. Brant Handy King Oedipus The tale of King Oedipus is a story that most have heard of. It is the story of a man who kills his own father, become king, and marries his mother. Although Oedipus was a good king and was liked by his people, he unknowingly held a horrible secret. This was that he, arguably in self defense, had killed the previous king Laius who was his father, which left the throne open to him after he rid the kingdom of the Sphinx. This led to his marriage to his mother, Jocasta, which neither of them was aware of at the time. But at the same time, Oedipus had already learned of the prophecy that had been given to his parents that he would kill his father and marry his mother. But it seems that even though the outcome of the story will be the same no matter what due to prophecy, the way that the prophecy was fulfilled seemed to be completely up to Oedipus. What really sets the plot of the story in motion is Oedipus being told that his swollen feet were a sign that he had been cast away by his original parents and adopted. Oedipus asks h......
