At the time old beliefs were seem to disappear for example fewer people went to church and the power, the nature and existence of God were questioned. Humans were becoming complex individuals because of new thinkers like Freud and Jung. There was more attention ‘for the mind’. Such words became important as evilness, feelings in humans and past memories.
Great Britain was colonized just like Africa, it was just as dark and frightening to the Romans as Africa was to Europeans. They both were savage country and continents. In the book it is questioned if it’s really needed to ‘civilize’ these black people.
The story also symbolizes a trip to the human mind. As they go deeper and deeper into the jungle to the unknown from Outer Station to Central Station and to Inner Station we also traveling into the human brain’s unknown and dark parts.
Kurtz is really a great European: his mother was half English, his father was half French and he is quite comfortable with all kinds of arts and sciences, such like in painting, poetry, music, philosoph......
