Frankenstein and Nietzsche- effects of the Enlightenment Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

By closely examining Frankenstein and Nietzsche, it is clear that Mary Shelley and Nietzsche have diametrically opposing views regarding the effects of the Enlightenment. On one hand, Shelley believes in a more conservative perception to life by avoiding technological progress, slowing down mathematical and scientific knowledge, and rejecting religious reforms. On the contrary, Nietzsche adopts a more radical ideology by breaking down the spiritual and religious dominance over society, at the same time, feeling the necessity to encourage technological progress, leading to an inevitable inequality among men. During this Age of Enlightenment, unlimited research was accomplished to find the best possible way for human reason to govern over nature. The combination of new technological findings with mathematical and scientific knowledge was considered as an asset to humanity. However, as portrayed by Marry Shelley, the ideal society would be one in which men are free from access technology, free from religious alterations, and importantly, all equal.
