Aaron Burr is known for many things throughout history. He served in the revolutionary war along side Benedict Arnold and was also a vice president under Thomas Jefferson. Aaron Burr is best known for the events following the duel that ended Alexander Hamiltons life, the conspiracy against the eastern union, his arrest, and finally his trial all of which is known as The Burr Conspiracy.
Aaron Burrs conspiracy or idea was simply to separate the west, consisting of the Louisiana Purchase and Texas, from the eastern union. After the duel with Alexander Hamilton, Burr saw his career dwindling and sought to start his own empire in the west starting with New Orleans which he hoped would be his capital. In order to start a new empire, he needed man-power and money. His first supporter was General James Wilkinson, the commander of the U.S. Army (PBS). Burr and Wilkinson served together in the revolution and became rather close writing cipher letters to each other which was created by Wilkinson. Wilkinson was a logical choice for Burr.
